Irish Hypnosis has developed powerful methods to help clients with the symptoms of IBS. We have over a 90% success rate in eliminating or significantly reducing the symptoms of IBS.

"I suffered from IBS and was on medication for nearly 14 years, the medication gave very little relief from my symptoms. Since doing the hypnosis sessions with you last year it has disappeared completely - the difference it's made to my quality of life is indescribable." Patrick P ( Blackrock )
Hypnosis is a potent IBS intervention. Generally the IBS is completely gone after the first or second session and one or two further sessions are used to reinforce the change to ensure that it does not come back.
Hypnosis treatment has advantages which makes it an attractive option for many IBS sufferers with chronic and severe symptoms:
- It is one of the most successful
treatment approaches for chronic IBS. The response rate to treatment is 80%
and better in most published studies to date.
- You generally get relief from the symptoms of IBS in the first or second
session.
- It is a relaxing form of treatment and generally very enjoyable.
- It is completely without negative side effects.
- The treatment sometimes results in improvement in other symptoms or problems
such as migraine or tension headaches, along with the improvement in IBS symptoms.
- The beneficial effects of the treatment last long after the end of the course
of treatment. According to research, individuals who improve from hypnosis
treatment for IBS can generally look forward to years of reduced bowel symptoms.
"I suffered from IBS for about eight years and it totally ruined my life. I couldn't go on holidays or go out at night. Sometimes the pain was unbearable. But since having the hypnotherapy with you my life has changed. I have had no symptoms for the last 12 months." Mary P ( Sligo )
IBS is one of the most common functional disorders of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Like other functional GI disorders, IBS consists of abnormal changes in the way the gut normally functions, without any detectable structural changes. IBS is characterized by recurrent abdominal pain and discomfort, accompanied by changes in bowel functioning such as diarrhoea, constipation or a combination of both. These symptoms typically last for years after they come on, but are often intermittent
Traditionally, physicians have had a great deal of difficulty coming up with adequate medical treatments for IBS. Medications used to treat the disorder have generally been aimed at treating single symptoms (such as pain or diarrhoea) of this complex syndrome, and have often proven limited in effectiveness even on those symptoms. Overall, the response of the syndrome to medication interventions has been inconsistent and disappointing, leaving a substantial proportion of patients with little or no lasting relief.
Dr. Grant Thompson, one of the
world's authorities on IBS, concluded in his review of pharmacologic management
of IBS: “The sheer number and variety of drugs sold …for
IBS treatments are testimony to their collective uselessness"
(Thompson, 1994).
Hypnosis has been so successful for improving IBS symptoms that Adriane Fugh-Berman,
MD, chair of the National Women's Health Network in Washington, DC, says that
hypnosis should be the treatment of choice for IBS cases
which have not responded to conventional therapy.
If you suffer with IBS and especially
if it's causing problems in your life, then don't suffer in silence, simply
telephone, or email for an appointment.
